Local members of True Republicans United, Christi Miller, Vice President Chris Ebert, and Judy Humes journeyed to the MO State Capitol on March 12 to attend the “Show Me Life” Pro-life Rally. The magnificent Capitol dome was cocooned in scaffolding and sheeting as it undergoes needed renovations. The irony of this was not lost on Ebert, the protection of this historic building which was hosting a rally for the preservation of precious innocent lives in and out of the womb.

The crowd, ranging in age from 2 months to 98 years, swelled in the Rotunda pouring over the upper balconies, as the event opened with prayer, the pledge of allegiance, and song. Steve Rupp and Susan Klein from Missouri Right to Life, recognized the various pro-life exhibitors and introduced state wide officials. Among the speakers were Governor Mike Parson, Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, Attorney General Eric Schmitt and State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick. All demonstrating their strong stance for the protection of the unborn.

Governor Parson in his remarks stated “As other states like New York and Virginia venture further away from the American ideal to protect and uphold the right to life, I'm honored to lead a state with so many people like all of you here today, committed to standing up for those who cannot protect themselves”. He further remarked “It's sad that we are now in a point in our country when national leaders cast votes that would allow for the taking of innocent human lives outside the womb. But here in Missouri, leaders in the MO House of Representatives recently passed one of the strongest pro-life bills (HB 126) in the country”. Parson also encourage everyone to thank their representatives, contact their senators and tell them this bill is on it's way, we need to get this done for Missouri. Urge your senators to vote for life.

While the speakers were making their remarks, bus loads of grade school children could eerily be heard, their voices echoing through the great halls, as they toured the capitol. Another irony swept over Ebert, how many children's voices have been muted by abortion? Who among those children touring will be inspired to become our future leaders?

It was encouraging to see the many teenage advocates raising their signs for life as the event came to a close, again with prayer and song. As the assembly exited the building they converged in the hall with a group of grade schoolers climbing the stairs to the upper levels. Another irony came over Ebert, the older generation was exiting the building, as our future, our precious children were ascending. Who knows what heights they will achieve, may God bless them on their way.
